Why we're excited about coliving at the Eco-Farm

Portugal is one of our home bases. Tiago grew up here, his favorite surf beaches are a short drive away, and this region is one of the places we keep coming back to. For us, it's very special to share somewhere we already love.

We stayed at the Alentejo Eco-Farm for five nights last spring for Tiago's birthday, and on day one we were already saying it out loud: this has to be a Cohli cohort.

The property is big and safe, with a little cluster of houses that felt like our own neighborhood for the week. We could step out our door and talk with our neighbors while the kids played or rode their bikes, which are free and plenty with bike paths to ride. In addition it has a playground, a half-pipe, heated pools, and workshops running throughout the day - horseback riding, gardening, the stuff that makes eyes go wide. Adults had two saunas, a cold plunge, a wood-fired jacuzzi, fireplaces in the evenings, and honestly the best breakfast buffet we've ever eaten (fresh eggs from the chickens out back, and hand-baked sourdough bread every morning). This felt like a perfect place for being in family community for a month or more.

This place is hard to categorize - it's part farm, part hotel. It was built for families. It has won awards and graced the pages of many international magazines. We'll take it directly from their website, explaining their concept: "It's where we're at home, away from home. Where they welcome us and let us be. Where there is always something to do, even if it is doing nothing. Or almost nothing. Where we can harvest what we have planted, close our eyes and feel the breeze pass. Breathe deep into the lull. Where time runs as fast as we want. And we do not have to be without a net to connect to the earth. Where enough we open the windows to let the quiet enter. Where we walk barefoot, feet in the herbs, and lie down in fresh sheets, just stretched. Such a place did not exist, so it had to be invented."

A sustainable eco-farm in Portugal's heart

The Alentejo Eco-Farm is a working agricultural property in southern Portugal, halfway between the countryside and the sea, a few kilometers from Zambujeira do Mar, and offers the perfect combination of connection to nature and the comforts of modern life. The property features a cluster of thoughtfully designed accommodations, Solo Parent Studios, Farmlofts and WeWood Premium homes with private kitchens, modern amenities, and direct access to gardens, pools, and trails. Each home is independent yet connected to shared spaces where the community gathers.

Our group will share a cluster of private homes, 40 to 85m²: Solo Parent Studios, Farmlofts and WeWood Premium homes, each with a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, AC, integrated heating, WiFi, coffee machine, and private terrace. Located in South-West Portugal, in the heart of Alentejo's wine and cork country. Minutes from hiking trails through native forest, biking routes across farmland, and local villages. 15 minutes from the ocean. The region is known for its slow rhythm and farm-to-table food culture. How long do you stay?

One month or both. A month is the minimum, and it is a real option rather than a fallback: families have booked it. Come for the first half, the second half, or all 59 nights.

That said, we prioritize longer stays. The rhythms, the friendships, the trust between families - all of that deepens with time. If you can stay all 59 nights, that's where the experience really opens up.

Included throughout: All accommodations and amenities, daily breakfast, kids program (Mon–Fri), activity access, community programming, and Cohli facilitation.

Transparent monthly pricing

Most families land between €4,180 and €7,870 per month. The price follows your family, not just the room. Your price is the home you choose, plus the €500 Block 2 programme fee, plus a place in the kids programme for each child. So two parents with one child start at €5,430, and a solo parent with one child at €4,180. Every price covers accommodation, daily breakfast, the kids program (with weekday lunches), activities, wellness access, and Cohli community programming.

How your price is built

Your residency is fully confirmed. Your €1,000 stay deposit is collected with this payment.

Installments are available if the standard schedule doesn't work for your family.

What else you will pay, and what comes back

With your final payment we collect a €1,000 stay deposit. It is one amount with two halves, and we hold it apart from our own money.

€500 security deposit. This stands against documented damage and nothing else. No damage, and it comes back in full, which is the case in the vast majority of stays.

€500 activities account. This is your family's money, held for you, so a waterpark day or a group dinner does not turn into chasing small payments all month. Every activity and its price lives in a shared sheet you can see from the first day, only what you sign up for comes out, and whatever you do not use is returned.

You get one itemized statement within 30 days of checkout, and the remaining balance of both halves comes back.

Your money is safe, whatever happens

Two places left. You read the agreement, you sign it, and then you pay. Nothing is ever charged before the signed agreement is back with us, so you see every term in full before any money moves.

And in the event this residency does not go ahead, everything you have paid comes back to you in full, booking deposit included. Not a credit, not a voucher, not part of it. All of it, back in your account.

If your own plans change after you have paid, we look for a replacement family. If we find one, your payments are returned less a €500 administrative fee.

Portugal is in the Schengen Area. EU citizens need no visa. US, UK, Canadian, and many other nationalities get 90-day visa-free access. We'll share specific guidance after acceptance.

What families ask about Alentejo
The Cohli kids program runs weekdays 9am–3pm. Most families use it as full childcare so they can work. But it's flexible: you can pick your kids up early for a hike, do a half day, or take a day off together. You can even join your kids during the programming when you wish. We'll work around your needs.
The property has strong WiFi throughout. Coworking spaces in the main building and lots of nooks for privacy. Homes also have coverage. It's suitable for full-time remote work.
Yes - that's the whole idea. Every house has a fully equipped kitchen. Weekends are self-catered. Weekdays, you can buy into the farmtable meals (breakfast included, lunch/dinner à la carte) or cook independently. It's your choice.
We've had babies to teenagers in our cohorts. Our Cohli kids program serves ages 1 to 11, in two bands: 1 to 3 with dedicated toddler care, and 4 to 11. Activities are scaled by age group. Older kids and teens are warmly welcome too, with a plan made for their age and adult meal pricing. Parents can join their younger children if you wish!

Two things we would rather say plainly. If your child is under three, a month like this is hard work: the days are full, the naps are negotiable, and you may be the parent doing most of the carrying. Many families tell us afterwards it was better than they feared, and we would rather you arrive prepared than surprised. And if you have a teenager, know that this is a mixed-age community rather than a teen cohort. We invite teens into adult activities and adults into what the teens are doing, but it helps to arrive with a plan of your own. A cohort forms over time, so we cannot promise a particular mix of ages. What we can promise is that we will tell you honestly where it stands whenever you ask.
January through March runs 10–16°C and warms as the weeks go on. Wildflowers, longer daylight, and rain that is more frequent than in summer but usually brief. When the sun is out, the sweaters come off. Bring layers for early mornings and evenings.
This is our first cohort at this property, so there are no testimonials yet. However, we stayed there ourselves and can vouch that this place is incredible for families living long-term. This is our second year running family coliving programs!
